Katie Menendez is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on Latin biblical commentaries, historiography, the transmission and reception of texts in monasteries, time, and manuscript studies. Her dissertation examines texts copied and written at Durham Cathedral, England, around 1100 to investigate the monks’ perception of time and how they used and shaped the intellectual traditions available to them.
Research related to commentary
In addition to Latin commentaries on the Bible, I have also studied the introductions to Old English translations as commentary. In all cases, I am interested in how later manuscript contexts provide insight into the use and transformation of the tradition, as well as the influence of commentarial practices in other genres.
