He studied Medieval Latin and Latin paleography at the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto, where he earned his MA and PhD.&nbsp;His doctoral dissertation, \u201cPeter Comestor\u2019s Lectures on the Gospel of Luke and its Glosses (c. 1163-8): A Partial Critical Edition and Study,\u201d contextualizes the pedagogical writings of an important medieval exegete, whose teachings on the Bible were influential throughout France in the decades before the formation of the University of Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research related to commentary<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>My current research investigates the impact of reading strategies cultivated in the Greco-Roman practice of&nbsp;<em>ars grammatica&nbsp;<\/em>(formal grammar) on the medieval practice of&nbsp;<em>sacra pagina&nbsp;<\/em>(study of the Bible). Ongoing projects also include editing a twelfth-century commentary on Virgil\u2019s Georgics attributed to Hilarius of Orl\u00e9ans, preparing a full edition of Comestor\u2019s Luke lectures, and exploring the development of the Roman concept of \u2018classical authors\u2019 in medieval debates over the relative value of ancient versus modern sources of knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Publications related to commentary<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Peter Comestor: Lectures on the <\/em>Glossa ordinaria<em>.
